The Ethiopian Aquatics Federation, recognizing the critical need for trained lifeguards in our country, has taken a proactive step in addressing this shortage. From September 16th to 25th, 2023, a comprehensive swimming life guarding training program was conducted at the prestigious Gion Hotel in Addis Ababa.
The primary objective of this training initiative is to ensure that individuals in our community can safely enjoy the swimming pool facilities across the nation. Moreover, by equipping participants with extensive knowledge and vital life-saving skills, this program will serve as a cornerstone in saving precious lives in water-related emergencies.
This rigorous training course encompassed both theoretical and practical sessions, with approximately 30% of the curriculum emphasizing essential theoretical concepts, while a substantial 70% focused on extensive hands-on practice. A total of 26 professionals from various regions and city administrations were selected to partake in this prestigious program, each bringing their unique set of skills and expertise to the table.
As a result of this training initiative, our nation will witness a significant increase in the number of competent lifeguards, who will be well-equipped to handle diverse challenges, ensuring the utmost safety for our citizens engaging in water-based activities.
The Ethiopian Aquatics Federation remains committed to fostering a culture of safety and enhancing the overall well-being of our community through initiatives such as these, and will continue to prioritize the training and development of skilled lifeguards in the years to come.
